In 1935 Ralph Deaven began a family business to meet the growing need for quality manufacturing and building materials. During Mr. Deaven's 40 year career the Harrisburg based business branched out to serve the State College area when his son Terry opened the Port Matilda office. Now into 3rd generation family ownership, the guiding principles of honesty, hard work, innovative products and customer satisfaction still guide the continued success of the organization.
American Subcontractor Ralph Deaven Award
The Ralph Deaven Lifetime Achievement Award was created by The American Subcontractors Association of Central Pennsylvania to honor an individual who has made a significant contribution to the construction industry for over 25 years. The recipient does not necessarily need to be a member of ASACP, but someone who has committed their time and efforts to the betterment of the construction industry as a whole. The award was named after Ralph Deaven, father to Nittany Building Specialties founder Terry Deaven, who retired in 1988 from the family business Hershocks.

JACQUELYNN HOOK [President]Jackie (Deaven) Hook assumed the role as President of the family business in 2014, taking Nittany to the next level as a Certified Women's Business Enterprise (WBE) construction business. In addition to having overall responsibility for the day to day operations of Nittany, Jackie's duties include legal consultation, financial/corporate matters, and the oversight of personnel and project management. With over 20 years experience in the construction industry and working her way up from bookkeeping and secretarial duties when she joined Nittany in 1995, she takes great pride in ensuring that the family business excels into the next generation. Jackie is engaged in various professional associations such as Associated Builders and Contractors, as well as community service organizations.
JOEL DEAVEN [Vice President]Joel has been part of Nittany since 1991 and as Vice President he continues to play a vital role in project management, estimating and sales in the Flooring and Aluminum/Glass Divisions. With 25 years in the construction industry his high level of knowledge in the core divisions of Nittany make him a key player in any project. Additionally, Joel is responsible for marketing, client relations, project procurement and design assist. Joel has been involved in the local Little League team as a coach and board member and coaches a local travel soccer team as well.
TERRY DEAVENFounder of Nittany Building Specialties, Mr. Deaven has been involved in all aspects of the glass and aluminum business for over 51 years. In his present role, Terry has been devoted to customer satisfaction and developing client relations. In growing the family business he has mentored the development of the next generation of owners and instilled in them a strong set of values that will allow Nittany to continue to provide excellence within the marketplace. In addition to multiple awards from ABC, Terry has been been a board member at Newport Assembly of God for over 30 years.
ROB MUSSELMAN [Vice President | Senior Estimator]As Senior Estimator and Vice President of Nittany, Rob is responsible for bidding and negotiating all major projects. He also provides oversight and mentorship of Nittany's estimators and project managers as well as project procurement and client relations. Rob joined Nittany in 2003 and has over 35 years experience in the construction industry. Rob was appointed Vice President in 2005 in recognition of his expertise in the glass and glazing business.
